Lost in the Sea of Goals
You're human, right?
That means you're a goal-setting machine as well.
It's everywhere, goals for:
Career
Health
Hobbies
You're constantly setting them.
But it lacks depth most of the time.
My goal is to make goal-setting conscious for you.
With proven frameworks & strategies
The last 6 months have been a walk in the park, setting & achieving goals.
I was lost before that:
No clarity
No purpose
Too many goals
No real priorities
Set deadline but no schedule
So if you're anything like me…
These strategies could change your entire life.
The Myth of Motivation
The average human relies purely on motivation.
Big mistake.
Motivation isn't real.
It's a short-term effect.
Achieving your goals is a long-term game.
Funny, huh?
You can set as many goals as you want, but if you don't develop an action plan for them, you'll fail.
I used to focus on the goal ONLY, f.e.
“I want to have a six-pack by summer” OR
“I want to publish my E-book in 3 months”
Guess what?
I failed because I only focused on the outcome.
And if you don't hit the goal, even though you improved in that period, you feel like a failure.
After this newsletter, it will never happen again:
Sailing to Success: The S.M.A.R.T Pirate
S.M.A.R.T Goals are more than an acronym!
Imagine yourself as Jack Sparrow, owner of the Black Pearl, sailing the seas in search of a legendary Treasure Island.
A captain has to navigate with precision.
Let's set your compass:
1. Specific – Plotting the Course
Just like a pirate captain charts a course to a specific destination, your first task is to set a clear route to your goal.
Your Treasure Island.
No vague musings here, only crystal-clear directives.
Answer:
What?
When?
Where?
Why?
Who?
2. Measurable – Counting Doubloons
A true pirate keeps track of their loot – Doubloons, jewels & trinkets.
Similarly, a goal needs measurable progress.
Which islands and ships have you already raided?
Map out each milestone.
Make sure you sail in the right direction, are you?
3. Achievable – Gathering Supplies
Setting sail requires more than just a sturdy ship.
We need supplies, crew & a feasible route.
Your goal has to be achievable.
Do you have the resources it takes?
Like a pirate gathering provisions, ensure you have what you need to succeed.
Growth happens as you balance your life on the line between discomfort & overwhelm
4. Relevant – The Pirate Codex
Honor, adventure & treasure hunting is the codex.
Align your goals with personal values.
Severe storms will test you.
You'll ask yourself: “Why the fuck am I still sailing?”
- or so, lol.
If your goals don't resonate with your pirate heart…
It will drown with you.
5. Time-Bound – Setting Sail by the Moon
Pirates set sail when the moon is favorable to guide them through the darkness.
Give your goals a timeline tied to the phases of the moon.
The sense of urgency will ensure you reach the port in record time.
It will keep you from bumming around.
Here are 2 examples:
1. Health: “Lose 10 pounds in three months by following a balanced diet and exercising four times a week.”
2. Education: “Complete a certification course in project management within the next six months.”
From Vision to Voyage
Now that you know how to calibrate your compass…
You'll have to do this with the main pillars of your life:
Mind
Body
Spirit
Business
Go as deep as possible here.
Take your time to set everything up.
Your life depends on it.
But as I said, focusing on the goal only won't be enough.
Most people stop here and feel good about themselves
Sorry to disappoint you.
“The goal is the what, the vision is the why, and the project is the how.”
Let's break it down:
You know what you want.
You know why you want it.
But what about the how?
You have to outline a project for each pillar of your life.
Break your goals down into the smallest possible steps.
Write down priority tasks you'll knock out daily.
If you want to take it more seriously…
Write down:
Milestones
Skills you need to learn
Variables (f.e. Six-pack: supplements, weight lifting, rest)
Priority Actions
Clarity is king.
The Power of the Present
You probably want to set a deadline for goals/projects
I even put them in my examples, right?
They aren't inherently shit.
But I made the mistake of living too much in my vision of the future & neglecting the process.
Consistent effort is the most important thing for us.
The best musicians play piano every day
The best writers sit at the keyboard every day.
It's not even about how well you perform.
It's about having fun & consistent practice.
Most of the time, your practice sessions won't go according to plan…
That's alright.
It's preparation for sessions where your genius strikes.
If you practice whether you feel like it or not, you'll never miss this opportunity.
If you love what you do, this will also feel a lot better.
The present moment is all we have.
Schedule > Deadline
A Glimpse of the Future
Achieving your goals is a walk in the park with the right frameworks.
Imagine there would be a template…
Everything is tailor-made, so you can simply start filling it out…
WHAT A COINCIDENCE!
I'll publish the goal-getter template next week
This goes into even more depth…
While making it easier & more actionable than ever.
